What's New on this Site?
Depending on the server settings at your ISP and in your web browser, sometimes when a
page has been updated you may still see the old version of the page.
If a page is listed here as updated, you may wish to press the "Refresh"
button on your web browser (or the F5 key), which should then update
the page.
New and recently updated pages are shown below
Tuesday 23 July 2024
As of the last month, the site is being updated to fix and update broken links, links to products that are unavailable, and other information (such as "NEW" indicators on info from five years ago). Currently (as of Tuesday 23 July 2024) this is partially complete.
Sadly, Booktopia (and its subsidiary Angus and Robertson) have gone out of business, therefore any links to these sites are being removed.
2023
Friday 7 July 2023
The website moved from its previous domain name of survival.ark.net.au to this domain, survival.ark.au.
2022
Sunday 25 September 2022
New web page added: Nuclear War Survival — Part 2 — How To Survive a Nuclear War. Since the original Nuclear War Survival page was already plenty long enough, I've added some new information on this second nuclear war survival page. Since nuclear war is such a prominent topic in current (as of late September 2022) world news, here is some extra info.
2021
Monday 16 August 2021
The website moved from its previous domain name of survival.org.au to survival.ark.net.au.This is due to changes in the rules for .org.au domains, which include things like needing to be an incorporated body with a board of directors, and susbstantial (at least for me) setup and ongoing legal costs, and/or other measures just as difficult.
I'm working on a new website ark.au, which will be a newer version of much of the content. A few of the species pages have already been migrated (starting with the newer ones since they are easier to transfer into the new format). It will take a while to copy most of the pages to the new format, and the existing website will stay online.
2020
Sunday 9 August 2020
Seven more new fish.
Tuesday 4 August 2020
Five new fish and an octopus, all on the fish page (because they all live in the water, and there isn't anything else on the invertebrates page yet).
Tuesday 21 July 2020
New page: Survival (and Other) Books About the COVID-19 Coronavirus.
Thursday 9 July 2020
Four new fish today.
Wednesday 8 July 2020
Added a couple of new fish field guides. Plus one new survival book, which I like so much it gets its own mention here: The Art of Resilience: Strategies for an Unbreakable Mind and Body.
I've newly added an online Permaculture Design Course which you can read more about here. It doesn't have a formal PDC certificate, which means it costs a fraction of the usual price for a PDC course. The course contains 54 and 1/2 hours of recorded lectures by Bill Mollison and Geoff Lawton.
Tuesday 7 July 2020
Fixed the many broken links on the Most Essential Survival Gear / Equipment page. Added three new animals to the Tracking Quiz (which may or may not appear in the randomly selected animals each time you load a new quiz, like all the animal tracks in the quiz).
Sunday 5 July 2020
New Australian frogs page with four frogs so far. Also added four new reptiles.
Wednesday 1 July 2020
Eight new books about Near-Death Experiences. Also fixed the links on that page and some of the other book pages. I still have a few more of these type of books to add later, I'll try to find them from storage so I can write more about them...
Added four new bird books and a frog book.
Tuesday 30 June 2020
I've been going over a lot of the book and DVD links, and fixing the ones that need fixing — by updating to the current edition, and/or adding different sources for the ones that are out of stock, and labelling the out of stock ones as unavailable. There are still more left to do. I'll try and fix more of them in the coming weeks.
Saturday 13 June 2020
Added a few more mammals and reptiles. Also added range maps for some of them. I'll be adding many more species over the next few weeks.
Friday 12 June 2020
Added 3 new Australian mammals and 5 new Australian reptiles. I'll be adding many more species over the next few weeks (and probably more tomorrow).

Prepping.com.au is a new web site I've been working on for a while in my spare time, when I've had some time. The focus will be on preparing to survive a collapse of society, and/or a crash
of the economy, war, and other severe disruptions to modern life as we know it.

Added the new page Make an Instant Tracking Box to Learn Animal Tracking.

Added the new page Australian Bush Food Plant Quiz.
Monday 18 September 2017
Added a few new products to the gear page.
Sunday 17 September 2017
Updates to the Nuclear War Survival page. The RSS feed should now work, or at least better than it did. Previously I had to manually add every entry
and then manually validate it (usually multiple times) and it was very time consuming. I hadn't even got around to updating the RSS since
about 2013. Now it should auto-generate itself from the source code of this
page (new.php). It might not work fully yet but it will be a lot better than no RSS updates at all.

Added the new pages: Using a Trail Camera to Practice Trapping and/or Study Animals and The Most Essential Survival Gear/Equipment.

Added the new pages Instant Bookshelf to Survive The Apocalypse and Black Rat.
Thursday 2 March 2017
Added 3 new books here. Updates to the Nuclear War Survival page.
Wednesday 1 March 2017
First draft of making survival.ark.au mobile browser friendly. There's an algorithm which should hopefully correctly detect if you're using a mobile device (like a phone, with a really small screen) and adjust the font size to be bigger than it was before. Most of the images are done but some are still too big or too small. I'll keep working on it. Eventually I'll probably add an option to change back to the original view on a mobile phone browser. I haven't done the contact form boxes yet or the search results page.
Added Booktopia links to all the available books on the Survival Books page and the Books by Tom Brown, Jr. page.

For Koa his lifestyle is a quest for the kind of freedom a wallaby has, knowledge to provide for yourself in the Australian bush, drawing on a lifetime of living close to nature. Koa has copped some flak for inaccuracies with his plant edibility, however he has managed to survive and thrive for over 35 years of living off the land without needing money or entering a bank. Research any plants in depth before eating and enjoy the video!
