Other Names: Spotted cardinalfish, coral cardinalfish or polkadot cardinalfish

Family: Apogonidae (cardinalfishes), about 370 species worldwide.

Size: To 8.5 cm

Distribution: Distributed throughout much of the western Pacific Ocean, from Java to Fiji, and from the Ryukyu Islands south to the Great Barrier Reef.

Status: Low vulnerability

Habitat: They are nocturnal, spending the day in dark crevices within the reef.

The male pajama cardinalfish incubates the eggs in its mouth until they hatch. They can be kept in home saltwater aquariums.
